Saw the movie on Tata Sky yesterday. Hadn’t heard much about it earlier so didn’t know what to expect. We just started watching it because we’re from the same region garhwal. It’s a mesmerizing movie! So many aspects of the children’s lives are touched upon in a simple, non preachy way, including those that they don’t know of yet but which affect them. Just when we thought that this is what the movie is about, the director would surprise us with yet another theme. And the best thing is that the focus never wavers from the children. We wanted to keep watching them and got to! The presentation of the village and it’s inhabitants and the reality of migration in Uttarakhand is depicted as it is and so is the neglect and importance of ‘pagli dadi’. No stereotypes and no hyperbole. I will certainly look forward to more films from the director Batul Mukhtiar!
